No matter how hard you scrub, a white veil always reappears on the shower wall. Water spots, milky streaks, dull reflections… lime scale invades every corner and even a brand-new shower cabin looks a little sad. So you reach for lemon, aluminum foil, or commercial products, without always conquering the toughest marks.
A tip highlighted by shower specialists shows, however, that a simple roll of baking paper, the kind used for baking, is enough to restore a spotless glass. It comes from the kitchen, costs almost nothing, and won’t damage the glass. And you’ll see that when paired with the right techniques, it can truly transform bathroom maintenance.
Why does lime scale cling to the shower glass?
On a shower wall, the problem begins as soon as the water dries. The brand Cuisibane sums up the situation: “The squeegee removes the water before it evaporates. Yet, it is precisely evaporation that leaves behind lime-scale deposits.” As long as droplets bead on the glass, the minerals contained in the water stick to it and gradually form this white film.
To prevent these marks, experts recommend using a special squeegee after each shower, then drying with a very dry microfiber cloth. “This routine takes less than a minute and effectively prevents lime scale on a glass shower panel,” emphasizes Cuisibane. The microfiber absorbs moisture, does not scratch, and helps avoid new water marks.
The kitchen baking paper to remove lime scale
The surprising idea comes from a tip shared by the Spanish site Okdiario and the specialists at Solomamparas. According to them, “it’s time to pull baking paper from the oven to use it as a cleaner.” That same paper that prevents cakes from sticking to the pan has properties that enable a good cleaning of the panel and help to erase the white marks.
The method is simple and requires no special products. Cut a sheet of baking paper, slightly moisten it under the faucet, and use it as a small sponge, focusing on the areas whitened by the deposit.

- Focus on the areas where the lime-scale stains are visible.
- Finish by drying with a dry microfiber cloth to remove the remaining moisture.
White vinegar, baking soda and good habits to prevent a return
If a few stains resist, the Solomamparas experts recommend moving on to white cleaning vinegar, not to be confused with culinary vinegar. They explain: “Clean the shower wall with water and white cleaning vinegar until it shines.” The liquid, clear, is diluted with water in equal parts, then applied with a spray bottle, followed by a light scrub and a rinse.
For very stubborn lime scale, the solution becomes more precise. “Prepare a mixture of 30 grams of baking soda with 62 milliliters of white cleaning vinegar,” detail these specialists. Apply this paste to the affected areas, let it sit for 5 minutes, scrub with a soft brush or an old toothbrush, then spray more vinegar, wait 10 minutes, and rinse with distilled water. An old toothbrush can also be used to clean the track of sliding shower panels, provided you clearly label it to avoid mixing it up with the rest of the brushes.
