Decathlon: A Hidden Smartphone Stand Fan That Could Save Your Phone This Summer

GPS launched, music streaming, charging cable plugged in, sun beating on the windshield… In the middle of summer, many drivers see their smartphone display a temperature warning or slow down. Inside a heated cabin, the combination of ambient heat plus charging can quickly push the phone’s thermometer up.

To limit this phenomenon, Decathlon highlights a new, unexpected accessory: a ventilated car smartphone holder, named Frozen Mag and designed by the SBS brand, says Les Numériques. This vent-mount promises both grip, wireless charging, and active cooling of the mobile. And its little secret hides in a discreet fan.

Why this Decathlon car smartphone holder targets overheating

A smartphone placed on a seat or stuck to the windshield endures the heat of the cabin, especially during a heatwave. When you also ask it to display GPS guidance, manage the mobile network, and charge, the processor and the battery emit even more heat. Wireless charging, very practical, also adds a few more degrees.

It is precisely this usage scenario that Frozen Mag targets. The holder imagined by SBS clips onto the vent grille and keeps the phone in front of the driver while powering it wireless up to 15 W. Decathlon markets it at a public price of €49.95 for those who want a single accessory rather than a duo of holder plus separate charger.

Frozen Mag: built-in fan, 15 W wireless charging and reinforced mounting

At the back of the Frozen Mag’s magnetic area, SBS has integrated a real cooling fan. As soon as the user places their smartphone on the stand, this fan automatically starts to blow away the heat generated by the processor and by wireless charging. The manufacturer notes that this airflow stays discreet, without excessive noise, so as not to impede driving.

In terms of design, the accessory weighs 117 g. It attaches to the vent via a screw-clip system, designed to stay stable even on rough roads. The manufacturer claims compatibility with classic grilles but also with circular outlets, often problematic for ordinary mounts. Finally, a joint allows 360-degree rotation, to switch on the fly between vertical or horizontal display.

iPhone, Android, MagSafe: compatibility and other points to check before buying

Electrically speaking, Frozen Mag delivers a maximum 15 W wireless charging. Its ADS (Automatic Detection System) measures the phone’s absorption capacity placed on the stand and adjusts the power accordingly, in steps of 5, 7.5, 10, or 15 W. The product advertises MagSafe compatibility, making it particularly suitable for iPhone 12 and newer models that can take advantage of the highest power.

For older iPhones, such as the 11, X, 8 or 7 series, power is limited around 7.5 W. Android smartphones or devices without built‑in magnets can use the thin metal plate provided, to stick to the back of the phone to ensure magnetic fixation. A USB-C to USB-C cable is also included to connect the stand to a vehicle’s power outlet. Before deciding, the driver can check a few simple points:

  • the type of air vent in their car (classic or circular);
  • the presence or absence of MagSafe on their smartphone;
  • their interest in the 360-degree rotation (portrait or landscape mode);
  • their budget, with an indicative price of 34.90 € (instead of 49.95 €).
