Elisa Blázquez, Nutritionist: Not All Yogurts Are Good — The Best Are Those With Just Two Ingredients

The dairy territory is, often in nutrition, one of the most controversial areas. Many voices argue that dairy products are unnecessary, but there are also many specialists who warn of their benefits. What is clear is that dairy, per se, is not a fundamental human food group.

This does not deny that they offer numerous benefits that can be leveraged through their consumption. Likewise, it is worth checking (and understanding) that not all dairy products are the same, and within that umbrella there are so many categories that it is inconceivable to lump them all together, as the saying goes.

In fact, this even applies to yogurts, a category within the dairy universe where, despite their similarities, they are not all identical. This was pointed out on the nutritionist Elisa Blázquez’s social networks, known on Instagram as @elisa.blazquez, when she focused on yogurts.

Better understanding how these products work, what makes them advisable (and what doesn’t) or how to choose the best ones is no small matter. Especially because yogurt, in general, enjoys good press. A reality that does not mean all of them are equally positive. Something we have already discussed at THE OBJECTIVE.

How to Choose the Best Yogurts

In this sense, Blázquez’s commentary did not point to gustatory or organoleptic elements, but rather focused on the nutritional aspect. A common factor in childhood, but also in adolescence and adulthood, yogurt remains a bacterial fermentation of milk with proven health benefits.

There is a simple chemical reaction by two beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, which convert the lactose in milk into lactic acid. This process is responsible for the texture of yogurt and also for its flavor. This is far from new, since there is evidence that humans have consumed yogurt (or its early forms) for over 7,000 years.
