Neither Buitrago de Lozoya nor Navacerrada: Town with the Most Christmas Activities in 2025

Peñíscola once again places itself on the national festive map with a proposal that transcends the usual December offerings, asserting its own symbolic title as the authentic Christmas town of 2025. While traditional destinations such as Buitrago de Lozoya or Navacerrada maintain their popularity, the Castellón city takes a further step in building a Christmas narrative that combines heritage, spectacle and civic participation. The City Council has presented a program with more than thirty activities for all audiences which, in addition to reinforcing its cultural dimension with exhibitions, concerts and festivals, adds sports and charitable initiatives such as Christmas camps and the II ALS Walk, as well as liturgical celebrations and a Christmas Edition concert accompanied by a popular hot chocolate. With this range of proposals, its officials aim to consolidate the town as a winter reference in the Mediterranean.

What to See in Peñíscola This Christmas

The first major attraction lies in the markets that will transform the historic center for several weeks. The Christmas Market will offer local crafts, decorations, traditional sweets, and seasonal gastronomic products, while the Medieval Market will revive the citadel’s historic aesthetics with stalls set in period ambiance and exhibitions that take advantage of the cobbled streets of the walled enclosure as a natural stage. These proposals seek to energize local trade and attract visitors in a period that until a few years ago carried less weight in tourism.

@planesenpareja Today we reveal to you a perfect Christmas destination just about 1 hour and a half from Valencia. A beautiful town by the sea. Where you will be able to enjoy its illuminated streets, the Christmas square decorated with its lovely tree, a fairy-tale Christmas market, where you can sip hot chocolate, a freshly made Nutella crepe, or buy Christmas decorations. And don’t miss its life-sized nativity scene. This amazing town is Peñíscola, which was chosen as Ferrero Rocher Town in 2021 and since then has become a must-visit Christmas destination in the Valencian Community. We were there last weekend and stayed at @boho_apartments. A building located in the heart of Peñíscola’s old town, specifically we stayed in its charming attic, with a private terrace with panoramic views of the sea and the walls and the streets of the old town of Peñíscola. The apartment features: Fully equipped kitchen, a super comfy double bed, a very comfortable bathroom, a private outdoor terrace where you can have breakfast or dinner by candlelight while admiring the wonderful views. Best part? Its location! It’s a 1-minute walk from the Plaza where all the Christmas decorations are, and you have the entire old town at your doorstep. We loved it. We were at the inauguration of the lights last Friday and enjoyed a beautiful drone show by @crostars_aerial_shows. If you’re thinking of visiting a Christmas destination near home, don’t miss Peñíscola. You’ll love it. Also, if you participated in our poll and guessed the destination you have a 5% discount at @boho_apartments for January and February. Will you miss it? 1 hour and a half from Valencia. Very close to the apartment there is a paid parking area like a blue zone (about 5€ per day) #peñiscola #puebloscomunidadvalenciana #destinonavideño #navidad ♬ Christmas Jazz Jingle Bells – Dmitry Khlynin

Another highly anticipated element will be the special lighting that will illuminate the citadel with renewed designs and a staging designed to highlight the monumental profile of the Papa Luna Castle. The city council defines it as one of the most ambitious light displays in recent years, a bet that aims to generate an iconic image that identifies Peñíscola’s Christmas on social networks and in the media. In addition to this attraction, there are the popular street parties on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and Epiphany night, three events that preserve the festive character of the municipality and that each year bring locals and tourists together in an intergenerational atmosphere.

The Family Offering Expands with Peñisnadal

Families will find a program especially curated thanks to Peñisnadal, the children’s park that will return as a meeting point with attractions, workshops, and activities for the little ones. The children’s New Year’s Eve will allow them to experience the chimes at their own pace, while the traditional arrivals of Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men include this year exclusive spaces for letter delivery and a Santa House designed so that children can talk with him and convey their wishes in a thematic and intimate setting.

Video Mapping, the Major Visual Highlight of 2025

The edition includes a premiere that is set to become one of the winter’s milestones. It is a video mapping to be projected for a weekend on the northern walls, where a workshop of gifts and Christmas dreams will be recreated. The audiovisual piece will integrate digital effects, music, and narration to highlight the defensive architecture of the site, placing Peñíscola among European cities that invest in technological spectacles capable of renewing the appeal of their historic spaces.

And What Plans You Shouldn’t Miss in Peñíscola

Beyond the big events, Peñíscola offers small experiences that capture the Christmas essence and often go unnoticed by many visitors:
