The health of King Harald V of Norway, aged 89, has suffered a ‘worsening’ over the weekend, according to the Norwegian Royal House, which stressed in a brief communique that the monarch remains hospitalized in a state described as ‘stable’.
‘The state of His Majesty the king has worsened over the weekend’, the statement said, before adding that Harald V ‘is receiving antibiotics for a bacterial infection in the bloodstream and has responded to the treatment.
Furthermore, it was noted that ‘the situation is stable’, while emphasizing that the monarch ‘will remain at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, and remains on sick leave until further notice’, so his schedule remains canceled.
The king of Norway, who has sat on the throne since 1991, was admitted on August 17 for fluid retention after undergoing a medical check prompted by the treatment he has been receiving for several weeks for his hemolytic anemia, as reported by the Royal House.
During this period, Crown Prince Haakon has been acting as regent, something he had previously done at the end of February and the beginning of March, when the king was admitted for a skin infection in a leg that led him to be hospitalized at the University Hospital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife during his holidays with his wife, Queen Sonja of Norway.
