September arrives, and with it one of the year’s most challenging moments for air conditioning: in the morning it’s cool, by noon it’s still warm, and at night the temperatures drop again. The result is that we continue using climate control, but often we do so in the same way as during the summer.
And there appears one of the most common mistakes: setting the air too cold or directing the stream directly at the body.
With back-to-school, the return to the offices and the start of the routine, we also spend more and more hours inside homes and other enclosed spaces. That’s why autumn is a good time to review not only the home’s temperature but also the quality of the air we breathe.
The mistake you should avoid with air conditioning in autumn
Air conditioning can still be a useful ally during the early weeks of autumn, but there is no need to use it as if it were midsummer.
Keeping the temperature too low or receiving the airflow directly can be uncomfortable and cause a sensation of dryness or irritation in the airways.
One of the recommendations from Haier HVAC Solutions is to maintain a steady temperature, roughly between 22 and 24 °C, and to direct the airflow so that the air spreads throughout the room rather than hitting people directly.
But there is something even more important: having the air conditioner on does not mean you shouldn’t open the windows.
The five-minute gesture that changes the home environment
With the windows closed for hours, the atmosphere can end up feeling stuffy. That’s why ventilating for a few minutes several times a day is one of the simplest habits to refresh the air inside the home.
It can be done in the morning, during a study or work break, or when you return home.
There’s no need to keep the windows open for long: a brief ventilation lets the ambient air renew itself and then you can re-establish climate control.
Moreover, some climate-control systems incorporate filters and purification technologies capable of acting on the air that passes through the unit.
Some units feature antibacterial filters, IFD systems or UVC technologies that can help reduce the presence of particles, allergens and certain microorganisms.
That said, no climate-control system replaces proper ventilation.
The maintenance your air conditioner needs after summer
If there is a perfect moment to inspect the air conditioner, it is precisely now. After several months of operation during the summer, the filters may have accumulated dust and dirt.
A regular cleaning helps keep the equipment in better condition and can prevent the appearance of bad odors or a drop in performance.
It is advisable to always follow the manufacturer’s specific instructions.
Some devices also include autocleaning functions that facilitate the upkeep of the unit.
And even if there are still warm days ahead, the seasonal transition is a good excuse to start using the air conditioning differently: more stable temperatures, no direct air, daily ventilation and clean filters.
Small changes that make the home more pleasant just as we begin to spend more time there again.
