Carmen Romero: Healthy Longevity Expert on the Three Stages of Aging — 44, 60, and 78

For years, people have believed that aging was a linear and natural process that gradually progressed, so that today you are a little older than yesterday. However, according to Carmen Romero, a specialist in healthy longevity, the passage of time in our body is not a progressive thing that increases day by day, but a process that arises in “three steps.” “Earlier we thought aging was linear, progressive, and downward. Today we can say with scientific evidence that we have three steps,” the expert asserts. Moreover, as she explains in the video, the body undergoes three major biological transformations at very specific ages: at 44, at 60, and at 78 years old.

1. The 44-year mark: The “metabolic strike”

The first significant decline in our body occurs much earlier than we might imagine, precisely at the age of 44, a moment when we experience a drastic change in how we process food and sustain energy. Romero defines it clearly by explaining that “the 44s are already calling it the metabolic strike,” that typical age when you notice your body no longer responds the way it used to. It is right there that the expert notes that “everyone tells you: ‘up to now I could eat and stay the same,’” because from this point onward it becomes much harder to control fat and keep muscles strong. The specialist emphasizes that there is nothing to fear, but one should get moving with exercise and good habits, because if this isn’t changed in time, future problems can be greater.

2. The 60-year mark: Cardiovascular risk and diabetes

The second step arrives at age 60. At this moment, alterations and changes in the body begin to appear in a more serious and grave way regarding health, especially if measures weren’t taken earlier to prevent it. At this stage, Romero warns, the body becomes more vulnerable and “we start with greater chances of diabetes and more likelihood of cardiovascular problems.” The arteries and the metabolic system become stiffer, so prevention through diet and exercise at this point is no longer optional but vital.

3. The 78-year milestone: A barrier to independence
