Ramón Gabaldón, Coach for Pilar Rubio and Pablo Motos, on Building Muscle Mass: Three Pillars—Strength Training, Rest, and Nutrition

You’ve probably wondered more than once how celebrities like Pilar Rubio or Pablo Motos manage to stay in such good shape even as the years go by. It’s quite evident on screen that both maintain a high level of energy that lets them keep giving their all. Yet, behind all of this there aren’t magical secrets, only a lot of discipline and the guidance of an expert, Ramón Gabaldón, the personal trainer for both of them, who has become a true reference in the fitness world thanks to his videos on social media where he shares health tips.

For Gabaldón, the path to a strong and healthy body is very clear. The trainer asserts that gaining muscle mass depends entirely on three pillars: strength training, rest, and your nutrition. If any one of them fails, the body doesn’t respond the same. However, in his latest posts on social media, the specialist has chosen to focus on a part of the body that we tend to neglect or train poorly: the glutes. And, as he has explained, working this area serves much more than just improving appearances.

This Is Health for Your Back

Many people think that training the glutes is only about looking good in the mirror, but Ramón Gabaldón breaks this myth. “Training the glute isn’t just about aesthetics: it’s key for pelvic stability and the lower back,” he states firmly. The glute is, in fact, the largest muscle in the human body and it is responsible for supporting our posture and enabling almost all leg movements. Having weak glutes is often the cause of the dreaded lower back pain and bad posture. That’s why Pilar Rubio is clear about it and always repeats a phrase: “The best thing about training is being able to heal your body,” according to Woman Madame.

Pilar Rubio’s Glute Routine

To achieve that stability and strength, the presenter follows a very specific routine designed by her trainer that combines five key exercises explained in a very simple way. First she performs deep squats, which are the foundation of everything because they strengthen the glutes, the thighs, and the lower back, always making sure to lower deeply and maintain a good posture to avoid injury. Next comes the hip thrust or glute bridge, which consists of lying on the back, supporting the upper back, and lifting the pelvis toward the ceiling while squeezing the glutes at the top. She also includes donkey kicks, done by placing the hands and knees on the floor while the leg is kicked back and up, something ideal to protect the lower back. The fourth exercise is banded abductions, where an elastic band is placed between the legs and you move them outward to provide hip stability and work the lateral part of the glutes. Finally, she performs lunges, taking long forward steps in a very controlled manner, a fantastic movement to improve balance and give plenty of steadiness to the legs.

In addition, although having strong glutes is very important, the trainer Ramón Gabaldón complements Pilar Rubio’s routines with the so-called functional training, which basically means doing exercises that work the whole body at once to help us be more agile in our daily life.
