Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre – an opportunity to work with Fuel Cell Technology

Manchester Metropolitan University are launching a fully funded programme to help businesses understand and diversify through the development of new products or services in fuel cell technology.

Hydrogen and fuel cell technology are of great interest to businesses involved in the energy sector. Hydrogen is the most abundant element on earth and focus is increasing on the potential of fuel cell technology to solve some of our future energy needs.

Current benefits/ applications of the technology include:

  • Producing Hydrogen through ‘water splitting’, often through renewable sources
  • Using Hydrogen as Energy Storage, an alternative to a battery
  • Fuel Cells can be used as Combined Heat and Power solutions as they produce electricity, heat and water.
  • Fuel cells operate silently
  • Hydrogen Fuel cells can operate ‘off grid’
  • Fuel cells can sit alongside and add benefit to other technologies, including existing heating systems, heat pumps, wind and solar technology.

The programme is available on a fully funded (no cost) basis to SME’s based in Greater Manchester.

To introduce the programme, MMU is holding an initial ‘launch’ workshop on June 12th at the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School.

The session will cover:

  • An introduction to fuel cell technology
  • An overview of current fuel cell applications
  • Context to why hydrogen and fuel cells are widely seen as an important, upcoming technology
  • How we can support you and your business to develop fuel cell products/ services
  • A tour of the laboratory
