Child poverty is increasing all across the UK, with 1 in 3 young people now in serious danger of malnutrition.
As most of us are preparing for the summer holidays, looking at summer camps and childcare for the summer months or booking a holiday or two, there are thousands of children across Greater Manchester facing a bleak six weeks.
For those most at risk, the school holidays often present the greatest challenge, with these children facing the triple threat of holiday hunger, inactivity and social isolation. We know that this can affect physical and mental health as well as educational attainment.
Delivered through the StreetGames network, our Fit and Fed Campaign offers fun physical activities and nutritious, healthy meals, to some of society’s most vulnerable young people. With the help of our supporters we hope to be able to keep 70,000 children Fit and Fed every year by 2021.
In 2017 we reached 14,000 children and this year we are on target to double this. But we need to do more. We have projects desperate to deliver Fit and Fed in their community, they just don’t have the money to make it happen. A number of these are on our doorstep in Greater Manchester.
Long term we are looking for corporate supporters interested in investing in the campaign on a national level enabling us to develop strategic partnerships, influence policy and offer Fit and Fed where it is needed most, but right now we are asking if you can help bring Fit and Fed to more children in Greater Manchester this summer.
